The Nevada Senate voted 12-to-9 in favor of the Trust Nevada Women Act — SB179. The bill relaxes some of the informed consent rules prior to an abortion. It still requires doctors to disclose risks of abortion, but rather that requiring doctors to explain “emotional” implications, requires the physician to solicit any questions the patient might have, and requires written confirmation the patient wants the abortion. The bill would also remove criminal penalties for anyone who causes an abortion without the advice of a physician. Polling by NARAL – a pro choice group–shows 8 in 10 Nevadan’s support access to safe and legal abortion.
