NEVADA BIG HORN SHEEP HERD DOUBLES — With the help of the Nevada Department of Wildlife and sportsman’s groups, Nevada’s Desert Big Horn Sheep, the state animal, have repopulated successfully in the Virginia Range. It’s been around 5 years since about 50 sheep were released into the range, and since then the herd has doubled in size. A recent study of the herd shows they are healthy and are making that area home. NDOW’s Chris Healy says the sportsmans’ group Nevada Bighorns Unlimited was a key player in the reestablishment of the sheep. NDOW says the sheep have bred beyond their expectations during one of the worst droughts we’ve ever seen.
