The Shooting Range Fire in Storey County has now burned an estimated 1,275 acres and is 70 percent contained. High winds yesterday caused the fire to jump the containment lines, but work by crews, helicopters and bulldozers quickly built a new line to hold the fire. Fire officials now believe the fire was human-caused. There are no structures threatened.

Meanwhile, The Little Den Fire east of Fallon in the Middlegate area has grown to 3,200 acres. According to officials that fire is 30 percent contained, with full containment expected next Tuesday. The fire is burning in brush, grass and trees. Sierra Front says the BLM is responding to the fire with ground and air resources.

Both fires are relying heavily on air support for fire suppression because of their locations. Fixed wing planes, or air tankers, that are based out of the Reno-Stead Airport are making a big difference in the fire fight. Just Thursday night, three heavy tankers dropped 31,000 gallons of retardant.
