Update: Virginia Mountains Complex Burning North of Reno

Update: Good news on the fire near Sutcliffe. Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe says services have been restored, including power, water and sewer.  Bureau of Land Management reports 58,000 acres have now burned in the Virginia Mountain Fire complex, 20,000 more acres than Sunday night. The Rock Fire is fully contained. With a Red Flag Warning expected Tuesday, firefighters are trying to get as much of an upper hand as possible Monday. Pyramid Lake is still closed to the public during the firefight. SR445 is still closed between Sutcliffe Road and Warrior Point. The Rock Fire, one of the most threatening is now contained. Containment of the entire complex of lightning strike fires is about 35%.

Nearly 800 firefighters continue battling the the Virginia Mountains Complex fires. It’s composed of four separate wildland fires, including the Anderson fire, The Sage fire, The Seven Lakes fire, and the Tule fire which is the largest at over 20-thousand acres. The Rock Fire has been contained. All of the fires are burning within about 20 miles of each other in an arc about 30 miles north of Reno. Combined containment on the four remaining fires has been upgraded to 35 percent. Full containment on all fires is expected August sixth. The Tule fire has forced evacuations of homes in the Big Canyon Area north of Warrior Point at Pyramid Lake. The Anderson fire has prompted evacuations from the Cottonwood Creek and Fish Springs areas north of Pyramid Lake.
