(KOH) – Saturday was a good day for fighting fires as two of the fires burning in northern Nevada have been fully contained. The Brenda Fire that was burning east of Eastlake Blvd in Washoe Valley is out at 632 acres and no structures were damaged. Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center reports the Cold Springs Fire is at 1,523 acres and is also fully contained. No homes were burned in that fire either. The Farad Fire that started along Interstate 80 on July 10 is now 81% contained. The size of the fire remains at 747 acres with no further growth anticipated.
However, the Long Valley Fire raged on Saturday Fire crews faced another day of intense fire activity. The receptive fuels of cheat grass, sage brush and juniper combined with the weather factors of high temperature, low humidity and wind resulted in a fast moving aggressive fire front. Poor relative humidity recovery resulted in continued active fire burning throughout the night.
The fire has extended southeast to Moonstone Road and Winnemucca Ranch Road and is travelling eastward towards Pyramid Lake. The fire is currently on Tule Ridge in the Dogskin Mountains. Over 63,000 acres have burned and it is 24 percent contained.
