Five Nevada juveniles who were sentenced for murder have been released since lawmakers ended “Life without parole,” for juvenile offenders. The change covers those who’ve served 20 years for their crimes, but weren’t convicted of more that one homicide. The Nevada law has made 24 offenders eligible to have their sentences reviewed and 19 remain in prison, including two who were originally sentenced to death, who are now sentenced to life without parole. The US Supreme court barred mandatory life without parole sentences for juvenile killers in 2012.
