Firefighters with the East Fork Fire Protection District of Douglas County are fighting a brush fire in the James Canyon area, off Jacks Valley Road, north of Genoa. Firefighters say structures are threatened, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says voluntary evacuations are underway for Canyon Creek Estates. An evacuation center has been activated at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. Large animals and livestock can be taken to the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road in Gardnerville. Traffic issues around the fire zone can be expected, including intermittent road closures.
