One of Californias most famous ski resorts is dropping “Squaw” from its name. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows says it will be dropping ‘Squaw’ next year after “extensive research into history of the term”. Officials say they reached out to members of the Washoe Tribe, as well as other Native American groups. Ron Cohen, president and COO says “While we love our local history and the memories we all associate with this place as it has been named for so long, we are confronted with the overwhelming evidence that the term ‘squaw’ is considered offensive.”
