[KOH] Chain restrictions are up on the Mt. Rose Highway and other Sierra highways due to winter weather that’s already hit us. It’s a good time to review the chain control rules used by the California Highway Patrol.

One other designation is R-Zero (R0), which indicates “open with no controls.” The Nevada Department of Transportation has similar designations on Nevada highways, and also closes highways before using R-3.
