The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating a number of cases involving counterfeit jewelry. Police say the suspects approach people in parking lots, telling them they need to sell the jewelry for gas money or food. They target elderly people, using high-pressure tactics to convince their victims to buy. In some cases suspects have taken victims to ATMs and casinos, so they can make large withdrawals of money, sometimes using force to take cash. It’s a scam that has been reported in various locations around northern Nevada.
