(Reno, NV) — The South Reno area has been dealing with an earthquake swarm in recent weeks. The Nevada Seismological Laboratory says the area has had more than 270 small earthquakes in about the past month. The largest was a magnitude 3.5, which happened on January 28th. Most of the minor ground shaking is happening between about six and seven-and-a-half-miles southeast of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The swarm started under the mountains east of the Virginia Foothills, but this week, there has been more activity under the Virginia Foothills residential area.
