The Nevada Department of Transportation is proposing widening Interstate 80 east of Sparks. I-80 between Vista Boulevard and USA Parkway would go from four lanes to six lanes, with three lanes in each direction. The proposal also calls for reconstructing the main interchanges in the area and adding safety improvements, including enhancing acceleration and deceleration lanes, adding between 25 and 50 new truck parking stalls and adding more lighting to ramps. The Reno-Tahoe Industrial Center says I-80 typically sees about 52-thouasand vehicles per day. That’s expected to increase to nearly 69-thousand vehicles per day by 2050.
