State Officials Going to Court to Force Washoe County Commission to Certify Election Recounts

(Reno, NV) — Nevada State officials will be going to court in an effort to force the Washoe County Commission to certify the results of two recent election recounts. On Tuesday, in an unprecedented move, the commission voted against certifying the results. The vote was split along party lines, with three Republicans voting against certification and two Democrats voting in favor of it. On Wednesday, Nevada Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar and Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford issued a joint statement saying they have asked the courts to step in. Both Aguilar and Ford say the Washoe County Commission is undermining the democratic process. The contested elections are for a county commission seat and a school board seat.
