10 Homes Spared After Wind-Driven Fire Comes Within Feet

(Reno, NV) — Ten homes that were threatened by a wind-driven brush fire in northwest Reno are still standing. The fire started behind a Walgreens on North McCarran Boulevard on Saturday afternoon. Wind quickly pushed the flames in the direction of the homes, prompting evacuations. The fire burned into backyards and destroyed a utility trailer, but no one was injured and no homes were damaged. The Reno Fire Department says the fire started in trees, but the cause is not clear.
