Tesla Truck That Caught Fire and Closed I-80 Taken to Sparks Factory

(Sacramento, CA) — California lawmakers are calling on Governor Newsom to put an electric vehicle fleet mandate on hold a day after an electric semi-truck caught fire. California Republicans issued a letter Tuesday, asking Newsom to delay a mandate that would require all big rig trucks to be electric by 2045. This comes after a Tesla Semi truck veered off the road Monday in Placer County and collided with trees. The fire, caused by the vehicle’s batteries, caused a closure of Interstate 80 as firefighters worked to contain the flames and the toxic fumes. In the letter, which mentions an incident involving a truck carrying lithium-ion batteries, lawmakers asked if Newsom’s administration has a plan for responding to electric truck fires. The remains of the truck were loaded onto a carrier and transported to Tesla’s factory in Sparks for investigation.
