Tahoe Fire Evacuations Could Take Hours Longer Than Previously Though

(Incline Village, NV) — Evacuations in the Lake Tahoe Basin in the event of a major wildfire could take several hours longer than previously estimated. That’s according to a new study from Tahoe Clean Air, which used A.I. simulations. The nonprofit worked with two companies, which ran more than 400 simulations to show what would happen during a major wildfire on Lake Tahoe’s north shore. Some simulations showed evacuations taking seven hours. Others showed getting everyone out of the region would take more than 13 hours. The simulations factored in wildfires in various locations, which would prompt certain road closures. They also included planned evacuation scenarios and no-notice evacuations.
