2024 Presidential Election

The United States will hold its 60th presidential election on November 5, 2024. The winner of the 2024 presidential election will be sworn into office on January 20, 2025.

The Republican Party selected former President Donald Trump (R) as its 2024 presidential nominee at the 2024 Republican National Convention, which was held from July 15-18, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

President Joe Biden (D), the former presumptive Democratic nominee, withdrew from the presidential race on July 21, 2024. He became the presumptive nominee on March 12, 2024, after winning an estimated majority of delegates in the presidential primaries.

Vice President Kamala Harris (D) won the Democratic presidential nomination on August 2, 2024, during a virtual roll call vote of Democratic convention delegates. Harris received 4,563 delegate votes, which amounted to 99% of the delegates.

A total of 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election on November 5, 2024.

Ahead of the elections, Republicans hold a majority in the U.S. House, while Democrats and independents who caucus with Democrats hold a majority in the U.S. Senate.
