West Attorney Fights Jail Transfer

Attorney David Houston continues to press for the release on house arrest of Richard West Jr., after the doctor who allegedly prescribed him an overdose of methadone at the jail was fired. Court documents show the U.S. Marshall’s Service agreed that West should no longer be kept at the Washoe County Jail on a 12-count indictment. The service wants to transfer West to a facility in Pahrump, nearly 400 miles away from Reno. Houston filed an emergency motion to place West under house arrest at the home of his parents, and says he can’t assist in his defense if his client is in Pahrump. Judge Miranda Du has given prosecutors until noon Wednesday to respond to the filing.
