Multiple Wildfires Burning Around Nevada And California

The Long Valley Fire near Doyle California has burned more than 30,500 acres since starting Tuesday. Evacuations were requested yesterday along Fish Springs Road and Winnemucca Ranch Road in Nevada due to the fire. Multiple home are threatened, as well as electric transmission lines. According to Sierra Front, three homes have been damaged and five outbuildings destroyed. No word yet on what started the fire.

 

The Farad Fire burning near Farad and Mystic, California, southwest of Reno between Verdi and Floriston, is 28 percent contained after burning 747 acres. Crews reported making good progress on Wednesday. Cal Fire is helping the US Forest Service with the firefight. Truckee Meadows Fire is also assisting. The fire is burning on the west side of I-80. Heavy smoke could be seen from much of northern Nevada and on many of the AlertTahoe cameras. There is no word yet what caused the fire.

 

The Bureau of Land Management says the Draw Fire, burning about 50 miles east of Fallon and north of Middlegate, has burned 26,872 acres, or about 39 square miles. The Draw Fire started last Friday evening. It’s burning through grass, sagebrush, and timber litter. Evacuations are still in place in Alpine. High-energy transmission lines and poles servicing northern California and and western Nevada have been damaged. Officials are providing structure protection for homes in the area of the fire. This fire is 60 percent contained.

 

The Roosters Comb fire is burning approximately 222,000 acres and is 15 percent contained, according to the Bureau of Land Management. It’s 25 miles north of Battle Mountain.

 

BLM firefighters have knocked out a fire in Limerick Canyon, about 15 miles northeast of Lovelock. The Limerick Fire is 100% contained. It has burned 14,598 acres, or about 23 square miles. More than 200 people were assigned to the fire, but most have been released. There is no word on a cause of the fire that started the evening of July 3rd.
