A brush fire north of Reno called the Long Valley Fire has burned about 33,500 acres according to Sierra Front, and the fire has moved east into Nevada, into the Fish Springs area. Evacuations are in place for about 12 homes on Fish Springs Road and Winnemucca Ranch Road. Five outbuildings have burned and three residences have been damaged, but no primary residences have been destroyed. In addition, seven vehicles were destroyed. In the interest of public safety the BLM has temporarily closed the Fort Sage Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, near Doyle.
A wildland fire about 30 miles southeast of Fallon has burned about 9,000 acres, or about 14 square miles. The Bravo 17 Fire broke out about Wednesday afternoon south of Fairview Peak, in Churchill County. Sierra Front says the fire started on a bombing range at Naval Air Station Fallon and spread east onto Bureau of Land Management land. There is no reported containment. BLM resources are being pulled from the nearby Draw Fire, which is mostly contained.
The Aspen Fire in Palomino Valley is 100% contained. The fire burned 315 acres, according to the US Forest Service. The fire blazed through cheat grass, brush and juniper in steep and rocky terrain, in the area of Wilcox Ranch and Quaking Aspen roads. The fire started near the Winnemucca Ranch Fire the evening of July 8th. Lightning is believed to be the cause.
The Farad Fire burning near Farad and Mystic, California, along I-80, is 58 percent contained after burning 747 acres. Cal Fire is helping the US Forest Service with the firefight. Truckee Meadows Fire is also assisting. The fire is burning on the west side of I-80. Heavy smoke could be seen from much of northern Nevada. There is no word yet what caused the fire.
